CSO’S LAUNCHES REPORT ON INFORMAL SECTOR TAX COMPLIANCE.

 

Civil society organisations,Budjit Ghana and Society for Women in Taxation (SWIT), have officially launched its final report for informal sector Tax Compliance.

The report is to aid the government in enriching contribute shaping an inclusive, transparent, and equitable tax landscape for informal sector workers in Ghana to reflect on the findings and explore avenues for implementation.

Speaking at the launch, the Budjit Ghana Country Manager,Miss Jennifer Moffatt* stressed, based on the research, there are a lot of challenges faced the informal sectors on taxation that have impacts affects on Development.

She recommended the need for a tax education for the informal sector taxpayers to help improve compliance and, additionally, proposed to encourage and motivate the taxpayers to help improve revenue.

On his part, Dr. Alex Moyem Kombat,Assistant Commissioner Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), commended the organization’s research with assurance of the GRA’s acceptance and assured of implementing some of their fundings in the 2026 Budget.

He disclosed that despite GRA’s challenges in taxation in the informal sector, GRA has come up with several administrative policies and measures to improve compliance to address the informal sector taxation challenges.

Finally, Madam Esi Sam,Chairperson of Society for Women in Taxation (SWIT) Ghana,stressed, Taxation plays invaluable role in building and sustaining the national economy which is used to bring in the needed national development and therefore Ghana Revenue Authority is mandated to collect taxes.

She used the opportunity to appealed to Women in the Informal Sector to participate in the compliance of taxation highlighted, even though women in Informal sector earn lower income and particular face challenges related to taxes on small businesses but still have to pay something on tax for the Government to be able to Develop with Schools, Roads, electricity, health Facilities and many more.
