Niikweitsuruman Mantse, Niikweitsuru II, has commended residents of Adjen Kotoku for their cooperation and support during the observance of the traditional ban on certain activities.
The ban, which began on May 12, 2025, is a significant aspect within the Ga culture, to pave way for the purification, pacification and allow prayers for the gods.
This ban was finally lifted on June 12, 2025, as people have observed this great tradition with great solemnity and respect.
During a brief press meeting, the Niikweitsuruman, Niikweitsuru II, expressed gratitude to the chiefs, elders, and all functionaries who worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth and respectful observance of the ban.
He also appreciated the residents for respecting the ban in a spirit of mutual respect, cultural sensitivity, and peaceful coexistence.
The lifting of the ban was accompanied by elaborate ceremonies, which showcased the unique cultural heritage and traditions of Adjen Kotoku.
The Niikweitsuruman noted that the ban was rooted in long-standing customs and was protected under the country’s legal framework.
The traditional leader commended the residents, particularly various religious groups and leaders, for their understanding and cooperation, which ensured an incident-free observance of the ban.
He reiterated the Adjen Kotoku Traditional Council’s commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the area.
The Niikweitsuruman, Niikweitsuru II, urged the residents to continue respecting and upholding the traditions and customs of Adjen Kotoku, which are an integral part of the area’s identity.
Niikweitsuru II seized the opportunity to appeal to the government for infrastructural reforms, stressing on the deteriorating state of their roads.
According to him, the fixing of these roads will go a long way to help residents in their day to day activities.
He also advised students, particularly those writing their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), to take their education very seriously and thread cautiously in all their activities.
