GUIDE TO CAREER CHOICE FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, A RAPID CHANGE TO HELPS IDENTIFY SKILLS AND INTERESTS.

 

The RCC in collaboration with Kwahu West Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, has educates Student on how to know the kinds of Courses they will choose in the Universities as they are about to write their WAEC Exams,

The initiative brought together along with Representatives from Various Universities, like UPSA, Legon University, University of environment and among others to educates the Student on how to make their choices of Course and this program was being introduced over the past two years to influenced students’ career choices and academic programmes regarding the selection of career choice.

Speaking in an interview with the media, Mr. Michael Agyemang, Regional planning officer Eastern Regional Coordinating Council,expressed the purpose of the RCC Students engagement intiated a year ago aimed at assisting the students to make the right career choices and Academic Programme in the Districts /Municipalities.

On his part, Hon. Halidu Tamimu,the Kwahu West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE),stressed, choosing a career can be hard when you have no idea what you want to do however, career choices among senior high schools’ students in Ghana.


“In general and the Kwahu West Municipality needed career information, educational needs, self-understanding, Study habits, interpersonal information and educational needs to influence students’ choice of career to helps them learn and explore careers that ultimately lead them to career chooce, so therefore, recommended that Career education and Guidance should be introduced in the primary school to enable children to explore the world of work as young people need to make a smooth transition from primary school to Senior High School on career Guidance activities in Basic and Second Cycle Schools to enable the guidance coordinators to function effectively at their various levels of Study”.

He expressed, sometimes interpersonal factors include teachers’ influence, societal perceptions, parental decissions, plays critical role in changing students career choice and used the opportunity to advised on allowing the Students explore their decissions themselves with the career choice gaurdlines given.
