AKWAABA FOUNDATION EDUCATES SCHOOL GIRLS ON IMPORTANCE OF MAINTAINING GOOD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE

In observance of World Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, the Akwaaba Foundation empowered school girls in Bortianor include ,Mount Holly Academy, Diamond Hill School, and New Covenant Academy with knowledge on menstrual hygiene and medical health.

The foundation aimed to break the stigma surrounding menstruation and empower young girls to manage their menstrual health with confidence. During the program, the girls were educated on the importance of maintaining good menstrual hygiene and how to clean themselves properly during menstruation.

According to Jessica Matyssek the foundation’s founder aim is to support communities with medical devices and education, with a focus on schools.

Mercy emphasized the importance of educating children on medical topics, particularly menstrual health, to break down stigmas and promote confidence.

Don’t be ashamed” of your body and menstruation. Instead, “be proud of your body” and the fact that you are a woman. Mercy encouraged the girls to view menstruation as a natural part of life and to prioritize their health and education.

Prince Owusu Mensah, Physician Assistant at Bethel Clinic , encouraged the girls to view menstruation as a normal part of life and to prioritize their health and hygiene during this time.

The foundation is empowering them to take control of their health and well-being. This initiative is particularly important in promoting girls’ education and reducing absenteeism due to menstrual-related issues.

He encouraged parents to prioritize their girl child’s well-being by providing access to sanitary pads during their monthly periods, while also shielding them from negative influences that may impact their self-esteem and confidence.
