GALAMSEY FIGHT: YOUTHS IN DANKWAKUROM DEMAND ACTION AGAINST CHIEFS AND MINING COMPANY
A group of angry youths in Dankwakurom, Kwahu West Municipal, have accused their chiefs of alleged aiding illegal mining activities (galamsey) in the town, leading to the destruction of farmlands and water bodies.
The youths claim that the chiefs have leased out the farmlands to Akroma Gold Company Limited for mining purposes, leaving the community without access to clean water and fertile land for farming.
According to Agya Noah, a resident, the chiefs summoned and punished him when he accused them of involvement in galamsey.The community’s livelihood is under threat due to the mining activities.

He is calling on the government to take immediate action against the company and the chiefs, or risk facing severe consequences.
The group are urging the government to remove the company from the area and take swift action to stop the illegal mining activities.
Kofi Asanti, a member of the group, lamented that the community can no longer access clean water from the river and are forced to buy packaged water for farming purposes.
He said the community has not benefited from the Akroma Gold Company’s operations, with poor schools, roads, and social amenities and the children are at risk of falling into mining pits, which can be fatal.
