People of Bissa in Adjen Kotoku, in the Amasaman Constituency, in collaboration with the Bissa Onion Traders and Farmers Union, has expressed support for peace in Bawku, highlighting the need for unity in the area.
This appeal was made during the celebration of the Zekula Festival on Saturday, April 19, 2025 in Adjen Kotoku in the Amasaman Constituency.
The festival serves as a platform to promote unity and address pressing issues in the region.
Sule Dabre, a Zekula Committee Member, emphasized the importance of peace, particularly in resolving the Bawku conflict, which has caused significant tension and suffering for the local population.
He urged all parties involved to cease hostilities, noting that ongoing mediation efforts aim to resolve the issue peacefully.
According to him, the destruction of property and infrastructure will not solve the conflict; instead, laying down arms and working together is crucial for the community’s progress.
“These killings and destruction of infrastructure is not going to help. We appeal that they should cease fire and live in peace and unity,” he said.
“Let us marry ourselves, love ourselves and live in harmony so we can all grow the community.”
Sule Dabre stated categorically that Bawku can never grow if this conflict is not resolved hence, appealed to the government to speed up its efforts to resolve the conflict.
The Member of Parliament for the Amasaman Constituency, Sedem Afenyo, commended the Bissa people for preserving their cultural heritage through the Zekula festival.
He stressed that peace is essential for development and encouraged unity among the various ethnic groups in the area, emphasizing that everyone is part of the same community.
“I am here to actually support my constituents in celebrating this particular festival and also to preach peace. Without peace, I don’t think we will be here,” he stated.
“So I’ll encourage all of us to give peace a chance. We are one people. … the Northerners, the Ewes, the Akans, the Gas, we are one people. So, I’ll plead with all of us, let’s all come together as one people and live in peace.”
