Keta -Akatsi Diocese Celebrates Chrism Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Aflao Border
The Catholic Diocese Keta- Akatsi marked this year’s Chrism Mass with a solemn celebration held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, located at the Aflao border, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
The sacred liturgy, presided over by the diocesan bishop, Most Rev. Gabriel Edoe Kumorjie, brought together hundreds of faithful, clergy, and religious from across the diocese. It is a key event in the Church’s Holy Week observances and serves to bless and consecrate the holy oils used for sacraments throughout the liturgical year.
During the Mass, three oils were consecrated: the Oil of Catechumens, the Oil of the Sick, and the Sacred Chrism. These will be distributed to parishes for use in sacraments such as Baptism, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick, and Holy Orders.
Priests from across the diocese also renewed their priestly vows, symbolizing unity and their continued commitment to serving the Church and the faithful.
Held near the Ghana-Togo border, the Mass emphasized not just spiritual renewal but also the unity of the Catholic faithful across diverse communities in the Diocese.
