
On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG) and some stakeholders held a media availability session which was captioned “media meet up.”
During the session, the Executive Director of the Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG), Dr. Stephen Yamoah, made it clear that gradual progress was been made on the execution of the nuclear power plant project.
According to Dr Yamoah, during the elections, there were questions as to whether both parties had interest and there was going to be a continuation of the nuclear program after the elections.
“I was a 100% sure that we have crossed that path where we are not certain whether this party or that party supports” he said.
Dr Yamoah reiterated that there have been interactions with the government through the ministries responsible and other parties involved which indicates real commitment from government for a successful project.
He further called on Ghanaians for full support and commitment to the realization of the power project since there are is no nuclear power program standard.
As indicated by Dr. Yamoah, there has been progress with the site appreciation process which started last year.
“We are in contact with the Lands Commission Head Office here in Accra, and also the offices in both Central and Western regions.
He added that, through the National Power Institute (NPI) and the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), a meteorological equipment would be secured to obtain meteorological data for emergency planning.
Dr Yamoah revealed that Ghana has received a simulator which is a very relevant and beneficial infrastructure.
He mentioned that the simulator is currently at the School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences.
According to Dr. Yamoah, through the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition an MOU was signed with EDF (Électricité de France) last year, which also led to a French Development Agency (AFD) giving Ghana a £1million grant.
