President John Dramani Mahama’s official X account, @JDMahama, has been successfully restored after being compromised by hackers on March 16, 2025.

The cyber breach involved the unauthorized promotion of a cryptocurrency scam, Solana Africa, which falsely claimed to be led by the President to facilitate seamless and cost-free payments across Africa using the Solana blockchain.

The hacking incident was first detected when Mahama’s account began posting promotional content about the cryptocurrency project, Solanafrica.

Fortunately, President Mahama’s team, in collaboration with X support, promptly regained control of the account, mitigating potential damage.

Expressing gratitude for the support received during the incident, President Mahama stated, “Thank you for your inquiries and offers to assist. My team, working with X support, has successfully restored my account”.

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) also assured the public that it was collaborating closely with X and other relevant stakeholders to address the issue and prevent future recurrence.

This incident underscores the imperative of robust cybersecurity measures for public figures, highlighting the need for vigilance in the face of evolving cyber threats.

Experts emphasize the importance of implementing stronger authentication systems, regular security audits, and emergency response protocols to protect digital assets.
