UCAP and CAMP-G set to host Triennial Congress in Ghana on “Balancing AI Progress and Human Values”

The Union Catholique Africaine de la Presse (UCAP), also knows as the African Catholic Union of the Press, in collaboration with the Catholic Association of Media Practitioners- Ghana (CAMP-G), is set to host its prestigious Triennial Congress to strengthen media professionals and educate the public on the need to preserve human values despite rapid technological progress.

The event, under the theme, “Balancing Technological Progress and the Preservation of Human Values in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI),” is set to take place from Sunday, August 10 to Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

The event will bring together various media professionals, researchers, and experts in digital technology from across the continent and beyond to discuss issues pertaining to the balance of human values and AI.

According to a statement released by the Catholic Association of Media Practitioners- Ghana (CAMP-G), “The UCAP Congress 2025 will feature discussions and deliberations on critical issues arising from or related to integral human development, particularly within the framework of Artificial Intelligence (AI).”

The statement added that the primary goal of the Congress is to educate the public on the importance of preserving our values despite the rapid rise of AI, and to also strengthen the media to uphold these values.

“The primary goal of this Congress is to strengthen the capacities of media professionals and educate the public on the necessity of preserving human values amid rapid technological progress.”

However, some specific objectives include;

  • To assess the impact of technological progress to better understand the challenges, risks, and opportunities presented by AI.
  • To promote ethics and bioethics in technical research and technological innovations through the media.
  • To advocate for human values such as respect for life, human dignity, charity, solidarity, and human rights.
  • To train 100 media practitioners in AI and emerging technologies, with a focus on balancing innovation and human values.

Some participants of this Congress include media professionals from both ecclesiastical and lay organizations, media researchers and academics, representatives from the Vatican, government agencies, NGOs, civil society groups, and the digital technology sector.

UCAP and CAMP-G are thereby calling on all Ghanaians and various stakeholders to support the event and contribute generously to make this Programme a success.
