
The Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA) has expressed gratitude to the government for its continuous support to nurses and midwives in the country by upholding the Nursing and Midwifery Training Allowance.
This follows the recent presentation of the 2025 Budget when the Finance Minister announced the allocation of GHC 480 million to support nurses and midwives in Ghana.
In a statement released by the National Executive Board of the Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA), “This critical support underscores the government’s recognition of the vital role that Nurses and Midwives play in our healthcare system and their unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of training for future healthcare professionals.”
“The decision to maintain this allowance is a testament to the government’s understanding of the significant contributions that nurse-midwives make to the health system, ensuring that we are adequately prepared to meet the healthcare challenges of our nation,” the statement said.
GNMTA further used the opportunity to call on government to urgently address issues of unemployment of nurses and midwives who completed training in 2021 and 2022, as these professional are capable of enhancing the healthcare delivery system in the country.
“Furthermore, we call upon the government to place greater emphasis on the employment of trained Nurses and Midwives who have been in the house unemployed after successful completion of their one year mandated national service; thus the 2021 and 2022 batches,” it read.
“The successful integration of these professionals into the workforce is essential for enhancing healthcare delivery and addressing the growing needs of our communities.”
GNMTA further reiterated its commitment to supporting the government in its policy implementation, urging the government to place high priority on the future of healthcare system.
