Special Committee launches WhatsApp platform for evidence collection in ministerial vetting chaos investigation

The Special Committee established by Speaker Bagbin to investigate the chaos that erupted during the ministerial vetting has announced the creation of a WhatsApp platform for gathering information about the incident.

At a press briefing on Monday, February 3, 2025, the committee urged the media and the public to submit any video or image evidence related to the disruption that occurred on January 30.

Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the Clerk of the Appointments Committee at 0244926911.

“We have created a digital platform, WhatsApp where we shall receive multimedia evidence including videos, audio and text to facilitate the speedy execution of the Committee’s task,” the committee stated.

Chairman of the Committee, Emmanuel Bedzrah, outlined that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted to identify all MPs involved in the chaos, with a report of findings to be submitted to the Speaker.

The committee plans to hold public hearings starting Wednesday, February 5, 2025, while also allowing for in-camera sessions for those who prefer confidentiality.

“We shall expect members of Parliament, the media and guests who were present at the vetting to voluntarily appear be here to assist the committee with the relevant information,” Mr. Bedzrah emphasized.

Additionally, he revealed that a forensic expert from the Ghana Police Service will assist in the investigation.

“It is our hope that all citizens will stand with the Parliament of Ghana in this trying moment to assist in rebuilding our enviable democratic attributes as we undertake to execute this task,” he added.

The committee reassured stakeholders that their work is not intended to target or “witch-hunt” any Member of Parliament.

“We are not here to witch-hunt any of our colleague Members of Parliament,” Mr. Bedzrah clarified.
