The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has raised serious concerns about the safety of New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs, accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) majority of engaging in bullying and intimidation tactics.

Addressing the press on Monday, February 3, 2025, Afenyo-Markin accused the NDC majority of intimidation and has resorted to bullying however, they are not perturbed and would stand strong.

“We’ve been cooperative, but they’re bullies. They intimidate us, and if we don’t stand strong, they’ll continue to bully us, and we won’t allow that,” he lamented.

He cited a recent incident during the Appointments Committee’s vetting process where an initial agreement to vet three nominees was disrupted when the NDC pushed for additional nominees, resulting in five being vetted that day.

Afenyo-Markin also alleged that the NDC has employed “foot soldiers” to intimidate NPP MPs, including instances of physical assault.

“We’ve brought this to the attention of Parliament Police, and we’re taking steps to beef up our security,” he announced.

“The attacks are becoming too frequent, and we don’t feel safe.”

The Minority Leader further defended the actions of NPP MPs during their protest on Thursday night, emphasizing that they are law-abiding and did not engage in any destruction of public property.

He urged critics to review video footage of the incident for clarity.
