Renowned sports journalist at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC Mr. Theophilus Sampah has been honored with a Meritorious Award at the 49th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards, held at a glamorous and Sporty Awards Night in the Capital.
With over 15 years of dedicated service at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Theophilus Sampah has carved a niche for himself as a passionate advocate for lesser-known sports in Ghana.

As the Head of Sports at the GBC Newsroom and the presenter of “The Page Sports”, GBC News’ flagship sports program, Theophilus, affectionately called T.S., or the Maestro or the STAR, has consistently highlighted the achievements and potential of Ghanaian athletes in disciplines often overlooked by mainstream coverage. Mr. Theoplius Sampah on receiving the award expressed profound gratitude for the recognition, dedicating the award to his colleagues, family, and the countless athletes whose stories he has worked on .

“This honor is not just for me but for every Ghanaian athlete who possess the passion to make a mark, especially in lesser-known sports. I remain committed to projecting the image of Ghana sports beyond our borders and ensuring these stories get the global attention they deserve,” he remarked.
Over the years, Sampah’s in-depth reporting and compelling storytelling have elevated sports such as handball, table tennis, and para-athletics, among others, showcasing the talent and determination of athletes in these fields. His efforts have not only inspired young athletes but have also brought attention to the need for more investment and support for such sports in Ghana. The SWAG Awards, an annual event, recognizes individuals and organizations that have contributed significantly to the development of sports in Ghana. This year’s ceremony brought together industry stakeholders, athletes, and journalists to honor excellence and commitment in various categories.
