The Apostolic Nuncio to South Sudan, His Grace Seamus Horgan Patrick, has assured the faithful during Mass at the Holy Family Cathedral in the Diocese of Rumbek that Pope Francis remains deeply connected to South Sudan, expressing his closeness and support for the country’s journey toward peace.
His Grace, Seamus Horgan Patrick, is the first resident nuncio to South Sudan, appointed by the Holy Father, Pope Francis. His visit to the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek marks a significant step in strengthening the relationship between the Vatican and South Sudan, with His Grace pledging to bring peace and hope to the people as they enter the Jubilee year.
In his visit to the Diocese, which also witnessed the beginning of the Pilgrimage for Peace walk for young people, the nuncio emphasized the importance of local churches and their role in fostering peace in South Sudan, particularly in Lakes State. He highlighted that the purpose of his visit was to better understand the situation of the local churches in the region and to spread messages of peace and hope.
During the pilgrimage, His Grace urged the young pilgrims to act as ambassadors of peace; stressing the importance of showing deliberate love and kindness to everyone they meet along their journey.
He expressed his joy in witnessing the pilgrimage, calling the initiative a symbol of hope for the Church as it enters the Jubilee Year.
On Monday, over 100 young pilgrims from the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek began their journey toward Yirol in Lakes State, as part of their pilgrimage for peace.
