Barcelona’s Dani Olmo registration saga has finally seen some progress. After being removed from Barcelona’s official squad by LaLiga due to administrative non-compliance, Olmo’s registration was temporarily reinstated by the Spanish Sports Supreme Council (SSC) on January 8, 2025.

This decision allowed Olmo to retain his license with Barcelona, despite LaLiga’s initial refusal to register him. The SSC’s ruling was made to prevent significant financial and sporting harm to the club and the player.

As a result, Olmo and teammate Pau Víctor are now officially registered with LaLiga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), making them available for selection by coach Hansi Flick.

The registration controversy stemmed from Barcelona’s failure to comply with LaLiga’s economic control regulations, which led to Olmo’s contract including a termination clause. This clause would have allowed Olmo to unilaterally terminate his contract and sign with another club if Barcelona failed to register him .

With Olmo’s registration now secured, Barcelona can breathe a sigh of relief, but the club still faces challenges in navigating LaLiga’s economic control regulations to avoid similar issues in the future.
