The Accra Digital Centre recently hosted the Ghana Youth Tech Summit, an event dedicated to exploring the theme “Leveraging Technology for Social Impact.”
This gathering brought together young innovators and thought leaders to discuss how technology can facilitate meaningful change in society.
Delivering his keynote address, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Maher Kheir spoke passionately about technology’s potential to bridge societal divides and enhance lives globally.
He urged young innovators to harness their skills to address pressing global issues such as climate change, healthcare, and education.
Ambassador Kheir highlighted the significance of international collaboration, encouraging attendees to engage with diverse communities and perspectives, ensuring that their projects generate a positive and ethical impact.
Creativity is Key Following the ambassador’s address, Isaac Newton Acquah, a tech-savvy business developer, shared his insights on empowerment through technology, presenting his formula for success: “Mindset Creativity.”
He emphasized that true empowerment begins with an open mindset ready for innovation and learning.
Acquah introduced the initiative “Ideas in Motion,” which inspires young people to transform their ideas into practical solutions for real-world challenges.
He underscored that creativity combined with purpose can lead to transformative projects that uplift communities and contribute to global progress.
Emmanuel Mumuni, Component Manager at GIZ, also addressed the importance of collaboration within Ghana’s tech ecosystem.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Mr. Mumuni stressed that no single individual can achieve success alone, urging young entrepreneurs to seek partnerships that can help them effectively build and scale their ventures.
“Typically, we start with just a vision and an idea, desiring to retain complete ownership of the business.
However, this mindset can be counterproductive. Instead, seek out someone who shares your interests and possesses complementary skills and collaborates.
This partnership can lead to innovative solutions and a more dynamic approach to problem-solving.
By leveraging each other’s strengths, you can overcome challenges more efficiently and create a product or service that is greater than the sum of its parts.” he said.
Mr. Mununi further emphasized the need for essential skills like communication and idea-pitching, which are crucial for forming strong partnerships and attracting resources.
The summit aimed to equip youth with the necessary skills, inspiration, and networking opportunities to leverage technology for social good.
The summit featured a distinguished array of speakers, including Gabriel Ofori Appiah from the Internet Safety Foundation; Social Media Influencer, Kobby Kyei, and representatives from various tech organizations.
These experts shared valuable insights on leveraging technology for social impact and advancing Ghana’s tech ecosystem.
