The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Dwomo in the Tano South Municipal of the Ahafo Region, Robert Mensah, has inaugurated a new District Police Head Office aimed at bolstering security in the area and improving police operations.

Addressing the media, Mr. Mensah highlighted that the construction of this facility has attracted numerous security officers to the constituency. He stated that this building will ensure a safe ground for the police to carry out their duties effectively without any constraints, and will bring back the once peaceful community back to life.

Mr. Mensah acknowledged that Dwomo has a history of electoral violence but noted that recent measures have significantly reduced such incidents.

He praised the police for their proactive approach in ensuring peace and stability, stressing that the Police have been proactive in their actions by ensuring that criminals are caught.

The Hwidiem Manhene, Osuodumgya Barima Apea Dwaah Boafo II, also commended the DCE for his initiative.

He urged the Ghana Police Service to extend officers’ postings in the community, explaining that short-term assignments hinder effective crime fighting:

According to him, as they leave within short periods, lawlessness begins to unfold within the community and the Traditional Council is not able to combat these crimes.

The Ahafo Police Commander, DCOP James Annor, emphasized the crucial role of the Ghana Police Service in ensuring peace and stability before, during, and after the upcoming elections.

He stated that it is illegal for individuals to carry weapons to voting sites, asserting that only the police and collaborating security agencies have the mandate to maintain order during the electoral process.

“It is against the law that an individual carries a weapon to voting sites… It is only the Police or any other security agencies who have collaborated with the Ghana Police Service that have that mandate to ensure peaceful processes during the December 7 elections,” he stressed.

DCOP Annor also revealed that the Ghana Police Service has initiated discussions with various political parties to clarify the security strategies that will be implemented during the elections.

He noted a concerning trend where political parties instill fear in voters to secure votes, stating, “This will not be tolerated during this year’s election.”
