A civic organization that leverages technology to enhance citizen engagement and promote transparency and accountability in governance Budglt Ghana has organized a one-day workshop of skills-enhancing training for some youth activists on fact-checking tools like GOOGLE FACT CHECK, lMAGE SEACH, and launching of the DEFENDERS MANUAL, to combat misinformation during elections, aimed at equipping the citizens with needed skills with the necessary tools and knowledge to fight against misinformation and disinformation to make the right choices in elections to avoid false information that threatens peace, stability, and social cohesion in the general elections in 2024, Under the THEME: “ROADMAP FOR 2024 ELECTIONS, IMPROVING TRANSPARENCY AND COMBATING ELECTORAL FRAUD IN GHANA.”

In her address, Ms. Jennifer Moffatt the Country Director of Budglt Ghana emphasized, that the skills training was organized to combat the widespread disinformation and false information about elections in Ghana becoming increasingly all the time and stressed, concerning the Defenders
manual, it contains detailed information on the role of citizens in elections, the impact of misinformation on how to identify and Verify information sources with fact-checking tools.

On his part, Mr. Confidence Mawusi, Child Online Protection -Leader stressed on the significance of the training as to know how Misinformation reporting might lead to conflicts during electoral activities hence, Budget Ghana decided to train activists to build their capacities on sensitive resolution, to be empowered with skills to counter Misinformation, fake news in elections and governance whiles advised, to instill the culture of verification and fact-checking information to prevent false narratives to avoid undermining the peace and stability the country is enjoying, before, during and after the December Polls and the MAJOR TOPICS TRAINED were the understanding of violence extremism, conflict sensitive information, and fact-checking.

On Peacebuilding, Dr. David Nyomanyo, an expert from the National Peace Council, Volta Regional Secretary took the activists through the causes of electoral conflicts and how to deal with them and reminded them of their roles in ensuring that they understand the conflict at hand, by digging deep to establish accurate information to avoid political and ethnic conflicts.
