The military is not interested in coups- Fmr. Dep Min of Justice to Mahama

Former Deputy Minister of Defense, Major (Retired) Derick Oduro, has responded to remarks made by former President John Dramani Mahama regarding the potential for a military coup due to corruption in the current government.

John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), criticized the perceived hypocrisy surrounding corruption under President Akufo-Addo’s administration, suggesting that similar levels of corruption during an NDC regime would have prompted a military intervention.

In his rebuttal, Major Oduro stated that the military is not solely focused on coups, emphasizing that during Mahama’s tenure, numerous scandals occurred without any military response.

He expressed this sentiment during an interview with Don Kwabena Prah Jnr on the Hot Morning Drive, highlighting that the military does not engage in political power struggles lightly.
