The Christian Mothers’ Association of the USA has generously donated $5,000 to support retired priests in the Volta and Oti regions.
This initiative reflects the Catholic principle of caring for priests, particularly during their retirement years when they may not receive as much attention or support.
During a conference held a year ago, the association decided to allocate a total of $10,000 specifically for retired priests in these regions. T
he funds were presented to the national president of the Christian Mothers’ Association, Mother Essuman, who was accompanied by her vice president, Mother Felicia Afrifa, and other dedicated executives.
The Public Relations Officer for the Ho Diocesan Priests’ Association, Rev. Father David Seyram Addo, along with Father Dennis Barima, who serves as the spiritual director, represented the retired priests during the presentation.
Mother Essuman emphasized that one of the core responsibilities of the Christian Mothers’ Association is to ensure the well-being of their priests, which they demonstrated through this donation.
She also encouraged other mothers to support similar initiatives.
Public Relations Officer for the Ho Diocesan Priests’ Association, Rev. Father David Seyram Addo, expressed profound gratitude for the kindness shown by the Christian Mothers’ Association.
He noted that ensuring a good quality of life for retired priests has been a longstanding challenge, but this financial assistance will significantly aid the Bishop in providing for their needs.
He blessed the mothers for their generosity and encouraged them to continue their supportive efforts.
Additionally, Father Addo highlighted some challenges faced by the Volta region, including financial constraints and a shortage of priests, which sometimes results in communities being unable to receive communion on Sundays—an essential aspect of Catholic worship.
He mentioned that Bishop Fianu has initiated a fund to support seminarians to help address these issues and urged everyone to support vocations within the church.
In conclusion, he reminded attendees that while priests dedicate their lives to serving their communities, it is equally important for the community to reciprocate by supporting them in their time of need.
