Chaos erupted in Kumasi during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration, prompting police to deploy tear gas to disperse supporters who clashed with law enforcement.
The protest, organized in response to the NDC’s concerns over alleged discrepancies in the voter register managed by the Electoral Commission (EC), quickly escalated into violence.
The situation intensified when demonstrators were barred from joining NDC executives as they attempted to enter the regional office to present their petition to the Ashanti Regional EC boss.
This led to confrontations with police, resulting in broken barricades and shattered glass doors at the office.
Reports indicate that one protester sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. However, the police have denied allegations of any shooting incident at the Kumasi EC office, asserting that no demonstrators were harmed by law enforcement.
As tensions continue outside, some NDC executives remain inside the building for discussions with the commissioner.
The NDC has accused the EC of neglecting their concerns regarding the integrity of the voter register ahead of the December elections.
