NDC nationwide “Enough is Enough” protest against EC underway

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is currently staging a nationwide demonstration across all regional capitals in protest against the Electoral Commission (EC).

The party accuses the EC of refusing to permit a forensic audit of the voters’ register ahead of the December elections, citing numerous alleged anomalies, including illegal and mass transfers of votes.

At a press briefing, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah called for a peaceful protest while expressing dissatisfaction with the EC’s handling of the electoral process.

He highlighted concerns over transparency, particularly regarding a lack of updates on investigations into the theft of Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs).

The EC has maintained that all necessary corrections to the voter register have been made following its exhibition of the provisional register, asserting that this process is intended to address any discrepancies as mandated by law.

Participants in the protest have shared their reasons for joining, emphasizing their demand for a credible voter register to ensure fair elections.

The demonstration is expected to culminate in petitions being submitted to the EC’s regional offices and headquarters in Accra.

The Ghana Police Service has pledged to maintain law and order during the protest, reminding demonstrators of their responsibilities under the Public Order Act. Police officials have assured the public that they are prepared to ensure a peaceful demonstration while warning against any form of violence or property destruction.
