Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has defended the party’s decision to protest against the Electoral Commission (EC) over concerns regarding the accuracy of the voters’ register.
The NDC argues that discrepancies in the register could compromise the integrity of the upcoming December 7 elections.
The party has scheduled a nationwide protest for tomorrow, September 17, to emphasize their demand for a credible voter register ahead of the elections.
During a community engagement as part of his Greater Accra regional tour, Mahama encouraged Ghanaians to support the NDC’s call for a transparent electoral process.
The EC has rejected calls for an independent forensic audit of the voter register, stating that such an audit is unnecessary.
In response, Mahama and other NDC leaders have expressed their commitment to ensuring that the electoral process is fair and credible.
“It is crucial that we have a voters’ register that reflects the true will of the people. We cannot afford any compromises in this election,” Mahama stated.
According to Mr. Mahama, the NDC’s protest is aimed at highlighting their concerns and pushing for reforms to ensure a trustworthy electoral system as Ghana approaches a critical election period.
