A prominent Private Legal Practitioner and Member of the New Patriotic Party’s National Communications Team, Lawyer Enoch Anhwere Afoakwah, has announced his intention to personally fund the branding of trucks and machinery acquired for the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP-2024) with images of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.
This initiative is intended as a tribute to their efforts in enhancing Ghana’s road infrastructure.
During a recent press interaction at the Annual Conference of the Ghana Bar Association in Kumasi, Mr. Afoakwah emphasized that good road infrastructure is a primary concern for Ghanaians, as it is crucial for economic development.
He noted that since 2017, the current administration has focused on building and maintaining over 12,000 kilometers of roads, declaring it the “Year of Roads.”
This effort addresses a long-standing infrastructure deficit that has hindered Ghana’s growth since independence.
Mr. Afoakwah expressed surprise at former President John Mahama’s remarks at a rally, where Mahama criticized the use of taxpayer-funded projects for political advertising.
He pointed out Mahama’s previous government actions, which included branding public assets with his image, questioning the consistency of Mahama’s stance on political branding.
He stated that if branding state assets with political figures’ images is deemed inappropriate, then Mahama should apologize to Ghanaians.
Mr. Afoakwah stressed that the DRIP-2024 initiative aims to empower Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) by providing them with essential tools and resources to improve road networks across Ghana.
He believes that this project will not only enhance infrastructure but also pave the way for a more connected and prosperous future for the nation.
