The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced its commitment to leverage Culture, Arts, and Tourism as a means to create more jobs for Ghanaians if elected in the upcoming December general elections.
The party believes that with the right focus and resources, the creative arts and tourism sectors can significantly contribute to employment, especially as the country grapples with rising youth unemployment.
Head of the NDC’s manifesto on Culture, Arts, and Tourism, Mr. Rex Omar, emphasized that the party has a robust plan to transform these sectors.
Speaking on the “Dwene Ho Biom” show hosted by Agya Owusu Ansah on Hot FM, he expressed dissatisfaction with the prevalence of foreign content on television stations, which he claims has hindered the growth of the Ghanaian creative arts industry.
According to him, the NDC’s manifesto outlines several initiatives aimed at revitalizing the creative economy, including the establishment of a Creative Arts Fund to support startups and struggling enterprises, investment in capacity building for artists, and the creation of Cultural Villages to showcase Ghana’s rich heritage.
He revealed that the party also aims to enhance tourism infrastructure and promote local content to boost employment opportunities within these sectors.
Mr. Omar added that the NDC’s focus on Culture, Arts, and Tourism stresses on their broader strategy to address the pressing issue of unemployment in Ghana while promoting national identity and cultural heritage.
