
The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Pyne has commissioned a newly constructed classroom block at the Santasi-Kagyasi African Faith Basic School.
The project was funded through the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF) and the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
The commissioning ceremony held today marked a significant milestone in the Assembly’s efforts to improve educational infrastructure within the metropolis.
In his remarks, Hon. Pyne highlighted the importance of education in national development and emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to providing conducive learning environments for students.

He urged the school and community to adopt a culture of maintenance to ensure the long-term sustainability of the new facility and other educational resources provided.
“The Assembly has invested in this project, and we expect the school and community to take good care of the facility. The practice of regular maintenance will ensure that this building serves generations of students to come,” Hon. Pyne said.
In addition to the classroom block, Hon. Pyne also donated 900 dual desks to various schools across the Kumasi Metropolis.

He noted that the donation is part of the Assembly’s broader initiative to tackle furniture shortages in schools, adding that the goal is to improve the overall quality of education in the metropolis.
Head of Planning at the Metro Directorate of Education, Mrs Judith Mensah Panford, upon receiving the facility on behalf of the Metro Director, commended the KMA for addressing a critical challenge in some schools.
“We are grateful to the Mayor for his thoughtfulness and the support from the Assembly and we promise that the facility the KMA is granting to us would be taken good care of as we also determine to maintain same so they can last long for us,” she said.

Finally, Nkosuohene of Kagyasi, Nana Nimo, who attended the event on behalf of the Local Traditional Council and teachers at Africa Faith Basic School expressed gratitude to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for the new facility, stating that it would significantly enhance teaching and learning at the Santasi-Kagyasi African Faith Basic School.
“We are very thankful for this classroom block, and on behalf of the headteacher and the entire school, we pledge to uphold the culture of maintenance, as advised by the Mayor. We will ensure that the building and all resources provided are well taken care of,” Nana Nimo said.
He also expressed their appreciation, acknowledging the Assembly’s role in addressing critical infrastructure needs.

They reiterated their commitment to maintaining the classroom block and ensuring it remains a comfortable space for learning.
The event was attended by officials from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, school authorities, and members of the Santasi-Kagyasi community, all of whom lauded the Assembly’s efforts to improve educational standards in the area.
