Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Former President John Dramani Mahama, has called on party supporters to demonstrate at the offices of the Electoral Commission (EC) across the country on September 17.
This comes after the NDC announced plans to stage nationwide protests on that date to express concerns about discrepancies in the voter register.
During a press briefing following the filing of his nomination forms for the 2024 general elections, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah revealed the party’s decision to organize the demonstrations.
Addressing supporters in Sampa, Jaman North District, Bono Region, Mahama urged them to pressure EC officials into addressing the party’s concerns and ensuring a free and fair electoral process in December.
The NDC’s grievances emerged during the recent voter exhibition exercise, where they identified several irregularities in the register.
After meeting with the EC to discuss these issues, the party requested a forensic audit of the register, but the EC denied this request.
Mahama emphasized the importance of the EC addressing the NDC’s concerns to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
He urged all NDC supporters to demonstrate at the EC offices in all 16 regional capitals on September 17 to demand that the EC rectifies the issues we have raised about the voter register.”
