The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to hold nationwide protests on September 17, 2024 to express their concerns over alleged irregularities in the voter register.
The party claims to have discovered several discrepancies in the register during the recent voter exhibition exercise.
After meeting with the Electoral Commission (EC) to address these issues, the NDC requested a forensic audit of the register, but this request was denied by the EC.
Following the submission of John Mahama’s presidential nomination forms, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia revealed the party’s decision to organize the nationwide protest. On September 17, protesters will march to the regional offices of the EC in all 16 regional capitals.
Additionally, the NDC’s national executives will present a formal petition at the EC’s headquarters in Accra.
Asiedu Nketia stated that a formal petition will be submitted to the EC Headquarters, urging the EC to conduct itself in a manner that ensures a peaceful, free, and fair election.
According to him, if the EC fails to address these alleged irregularities before the December 7 general election, the integrity of the electoral process may be seriously compromised.
