Tamale High Court orders re-run of NPP Primary in Walewale Constituency

The Tamale High Court in the Northern Region has ordered a re-run of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primary for the Walewale constituency.

The ruling was delivered on Monday, September 2, 2024, with the full judgment set to be read on September 12, 2024.

This decision follows an injunction placed on Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru in June 2024, which restrained him from holding himself out as the elected parliamentary candidate for the NPP in Walewale.

The injunction was a result of a challenge to the election results by the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hajia Lariba Zuweratu, who had narrowly lost to Dr. Kabiru in a tightly contested primary earlier this year.

Lawyer Sylvester Essan, representing Hajia Lariba, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, while Dr. Kabiru’s lawyer, Sampson Ladi Ayenini, voiced dissatisfaction and indicated that they would await the full ruling to determine their next steps.
