The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially announced the timelines for the re-run of the parliamentary primary election in the Walewale Constituency.
In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, it was confirmed that all interested candidates will have access to purchase nomination forms.
This announcement follows a recent order from the Tamale High Court for the re-run of the disputed NPP parliamentary primaries, which had previously declared Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru as the winner.
The court has instructed that the re-run be conducted in accordance with electoral laws, although the full written judgment is still pending.
Nominations for the re-run will open on September 3, 2024, and close on September 5, 2024. The election is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
Aspiring candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of GHC 3,000, along with a filing fee of GHC 35,000. However, women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will receive a 50% discount on the filing fee, reducing it to GHC 17,500.
The NPP has also established an Elections Committee to oversee the primary election, chaired by Alhaji Haruna Mohammed, with Alhaji Nurudeen Fuseini as Vice Chairman and Evans Nimako as Secretary.
All nomination forms will be available for purchase at the constituency party office.
