The Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Prof. Amin Alhassan, has clarified that the media house received only $105,000 for its coverage of the 2024 All African Games, contradicting the claim made by Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif that GBC was paid over $3 million.

During a recent session of the Public Accounts Committee, Ussif confirmed that GBC was the official broadcaster for the 13th All African Games, can confirm that full payment was made to GBC, which is an excess of $3 million.

This statement raised eyebrows, particularly among those concerned about unpaid technicians who worked on the Games.

In response to Ussif’s remarks, Prof. Alhassan explained in an interview that the $105,000 received by GBC was used to cover costs associated with suspending some of its regular programming during the event.

He clarified that the total payment received amounted to $105,000, which contradicts what the sports minister had stated earlier.

“I want to state that GBC’s total benefit from the African Games was $105,000. Nothing more was paid to GBC,” he explained.
