GBC was paid $3 million for All African Games coverage- Sports Minister

The Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has confirmed that the government has paid $3 million to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for its coverage of the 2024 All African Games held in Accra four months ago.

This payment was disclosed during Ussif’s appearance before the Public Accounts Committee on August 19, 2024, in response to inquiries from Ningo-Prampram MP, Samuel George. In response to George’s questions about the payment status,

“Yes, GBC was the official broadcaster for the 13th All African Games, and I can confirm that full payment has been made to GBC. I can’t remember the exact amount but I know that it is in excess of $3 million,” the minister replied.

Hon. Samuel George raised concerns that many technicians who worked on the Games had not yet received their payments, prompting him to seek clarification on the amount paid to GBC.

He indicated that the Public Accounts Committee would further investigate the matter with GBC to understand why the technicians had not been compensated despite the reported payment to the broadcaster.
