The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Fetish Priests and Priestesses Association, Okomfoɔ Yaw, has proposed that corruption could be eradicated in Ghana if politicians and public officials were required to swear by smaller gods before taking office.

Speaking at a press conference in the Kwabre East Municipality, he argued that the high levels of corruption have hindered the nation’s development.

Okomfoɔ Yaw suggested that traditional oaths, involving items like eggs and schnapps, would instill fear in leaders to deter corrupt practices, claiming that they do not fear religious texts such as the Bible or the Quran.

He argued that if the President takes an oath during the swearing-in ceremony, Members of Parliament and other office holders should also swear oaths in front of deities to ensure accountability.

The fetish priest believes that the gods do not forgive certain deeds and will take action against anyone who goes against their sworn oath.

He expressed concern that the actions of Ghanaian politicians are fostering disrespect among the youth, indicating a need for accountability and moral integrity among leaders.
