Dr. Bawumia’s flat tax proposal promises economic growth if effectively implemented- Economist

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has proposed a flat tax regime aimed at strengthening businesses and boosting economic growth, however, a development economist Dr. Hayford Ayerakwa has indicated that if implemented properly, this initiative could have a significant positive impact.

During the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for business-friendly policies to enhance growth and job creation.

He outlined plans to harmonize port charges with competing regional ports, particularly Togo, and to introduce direct incentives for businesses.

Dr. Ayarikwa, speaking on the Hot Morning Drive on Fox FM, highlighted the current high port charges in Ghana, which he believes are driving many to use Togo’s port instead.

He stated that the proposed flat tax could alleviate some of these burdens if executed effectively, ultimately benefiting the economy and the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
