CETAG strike: Leadership meets with government

The Ministry of Labour and Employment Relations, through the Fair Wages Commission, has invited the leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association Ghana (CETAG) and other stakeholders to a crucial meeting today, Monday, August 19.

The meeting aims to address the concerns of CETAG members, who have been on a nationwide strike for the last two months, leading to a complete halt in academic work at all 46 Colleges of Education in the country.

Other stakeholders invited to the meeting include the Ministry of Finance, the Director of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, the Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), and the Director General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (G-TEC).

CETAG members in all 46 Colleges of Education embarked on strike action on June 14, citing the government’s delay in implementing their conditions of service.

The impasse has brought academic activities on all campuses of colleges of education to a standstill, affecting teaching and learning.

Despite the ongoing strike, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed all colleges of education to remain open until further notice, stating that no decision has been made to close the institutions.

The leadership of the College of Education Students Association has proposed the closure of the colleges so that students can go home while the issue is being resolved.
