Former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to establish an annual National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving if elected president in the 2024 elections.
The proposed day would bring together people of all faiths to express gratitude and seek divine guidance for the country.
Speaking at an engagement with religious leaders in Ho, Volta Region, Mahama emphasized the importance of thanksgiving in all circumstances, citing biblical teachings and his experiences attending similar events in countries like the United States and Zambia.
He believes this initiative would significantly contribute to increased prosperity and progress in Ghana.
“Even though God expects us to work hard to improve our circumstances, we must also recognize that spiritually you must intercede for God to open the gates for you,” Mahama said.
“In the United States, in Zambia and so many countries I have been to, I have been invited to National Thanksgiving and Prayer Dedication events, and so we intend to introduce a National Day of Prayer and thanksgiving in Ghana,” the former president continued.
Mahama emphasized that this collective prayer and thanksgiving will invoke God’s blessings and prosperity for the nation.
He plans to hold the event for both Christian and Muslim communities, allowing everyone to intercede for Ghana’s progress together.
“We will give thanks to God for all that He has done for us because He said to count your blessings, and if you appreciate what the Lord has done for you, He will do even more for you,” Mahama added.
