Security and Conflict Analyst at the Center for Security Dialogue and Peace Advocacy, Anthony Acquaye, says all security experts, in one way or the other, will express support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s decision not to sign the peace agreement proposed by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Speaking during Taken Over News on Hot News, Mr. Acquaye stated that peace must be accompanied by justice, highlighting a lack of accountability for violence during past elections.

Acquaye’s comments follow NDC Chairman Asiedu Nketia’s assertion that previous peace pacts have failed to produce real results, rendering the current agreement meaningless.

He emphasized that the justice system in Ghana has not adequately addressed the violence that occurred after the 2020 elections, which has led to a lack of trust in the process.

He urged the mediators of the peace agreement to develop strategies that address the concerns of all political parties.

Acquaye warned that if these issues are not addressed, the confidence of political parties in signing peace agreements could diminish.

Additionally, he called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to be transparent and accountable to the political parties, stating that such transparency is crucial for building credibility and trust among political parties and Ghanaians.
