A 92-year-old man, John Quaye, was rescued by police after being accused of being a wizard in Kalabule, located in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

Reports indicate that he was discovered in a bush near the Densu River, appearing weak and unable to communicate effectively.

Community members, judging by his frail condition and unusual remarks, concluded that he was a wizard who had been exposed after engaging in nocturnal activities.

This led to a near-lynching incident.

An eyewitness, Kofi, stated that the Ngleshie Amanfro District Police Command, led by Sergeant Noble Evans Essuman, acted quickly to save the elderly man from the mob’s wrath.

His relatives, who later arrived at the police station, as part of their search efforts explained that the old man is a retired cocoa farmer and even owned a house in the area and was only suffering from dementia as a result of old age.

According to them, he went missing the previous evening and obviously passed the night in the bush.

Eric Allotey is a nephew to the old man and thanked the police and residents who rescued his uncle.
