The Chief (Mantse) of Ablekuma Nii Larbi Mensah V, has entreated Chiefs and Traditional leaders to be circumspect with their utterances when politicians call on them.
He advised his colleague chiefs to be cautious in their interactions with political figures, Chief’s can express their reservations but they should be mindful of their positions to handle political engagements with care.
He made the Recommendation when Ga- indigenes celebrates it’s annual Homowo festival to hoot at hunger and thank the almighty God when Royal Families clad in red to celebrates the festival and eat the traditional food, Kpokpoi as they celebrate family and acknowledge ancestors.
On his part, the Asafoatse of Ablekuma, ASAFOATSE OTUBUOR ONSURO-GYA, also admonish the chief’s as well as the youth in Ghana to stay away from acts of violence during this campaign season and also reminded the youth and all other stakeholders that they only had one vote, which they could exercise on the day of the election, so therefore counselled Ghanaians to embrace peace to consolidate the gains made under the period of democratic rule in the history of Ghana.
He also entreated Ghanaian youth to be civil and play to the electoral rules rather than allowing their youthful exuberance to lead them into trouble.
Finally, the (Manye) Queen-mother of Ablekuma, Naa Dede Kaaley ll, added her voice by emphasising the critical role chiefs play in maintaining peace since they are not to be seen openly by endorsing candidates as traditional leaders subjects belong to different political parties.
He implored, nothing prevents chiefs to vote for their preferred parliamentary and presidential candidates, but they should desist from getting involved in any activity that could spark violence during this election year.
