The Chief of Ablekuma in the Greater Accra region, Nii Larbi Mensah V, has advised his fellow chiefs and traditional leaders to exercise restraint when interacting with politicians.
During the celebration of the annual Homowo festival by Ga indigenes, Nii Larbi Mensah V cautioned his colleagues to be mindful of their positions and handle political engagements carefully.
He emphasized that while chiefs can express their reservations, they should do so with consideration for the gravity of their roles.
The Asafoatse of Ablekuma, Asafoatse Otubuor Onsuro-Gya, also used the occasion to urge the youth in Ghana to refrain from violence during the current campaign season.
He appealed to all Ghanaians to embrace peace and safeguard the democratic gains made in the country.
The Queen-mother of Ablekuma, Naa Dede Kaaley ll added her voice by emphasising the critical role chiefs play in maintaining peace since they are not to be seen openly endorsing candidates.
She said nothing prevents chiefs to vote for their preferred parliamentary and presidential candidates, but they should desist from getting involved in any activity that could spark violence during this election year.
