The former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, launched his campaign and met with the press on Sunday, July 6, 2024, to outline his plans for the next four years if elected.
He was asked questions about how he would revive the economy, how he would deal with corruption, and also what his government would do about the tax hike in Ghana.
Mahama revealed to the press that his next government will work tirelessly to stabilize the economy by focusing on the exchange rate, as it determines the cost of buying and selling goods. In a developing country like Ghana, the strength of our economy relies on the exchange rate, and this is a commitment Mahama is making to the Ghanaian people.
When the former president was asked about corruption, he disclosed that he wouldn’t spare anyone who has been involved in a corruption scandal under the Akufo-Addo-led administration, and this particular statement has sparked reactions.
Unemployment, one of the obstacles that hinder a nation’s development through taxes, is something Mahama says he will address to create more job opportunities for graduates and Ghanaian youth as a whole.
The former President promised to abolish the which was introduced in Ghana to avoid IMF intervention. However, due to the country’s poor economic state, it had to seek a bailout to revive the economy. Unfortunately, the taxes imposed are excessive. Vice President Bawumia, who pledged to eliminate these taxes, is now part of the current government. What is preventing him from fulfilling that promise now?
Lastly, former President disclosed that his next administration will repossess all government lands that have been stolen, especially the lands taken from LA.
