The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana(NALAG), at a one day Training and capacity workshop for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Coordinating Directors(MMDCDs) in Ashanti region have charged all MMDCDs to open all possible avenues for women to be part in leadership roles and decision making bodies at the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblis(MMDAs) level.
According to Hon. Kokro Amankwaah, the general secretary for NALAG, the Ghanaian women have been sidelined when it comes to decision making in our district assemblies and parliament at large. He stated that women have their own challenges and issues that can be address by women themselves, therefore, the training and workshop program was mainly organise to help equip MMDCDs with the necessary information, knowledge and skills to implement effective strategies for gender mainstreaming and social inclusion in their line of duty.
“The United Nations have placed a benchmark for a minimum of 30% of all public life to be women, but it is not the same in the Ghanaian district assemblies and parliament,” he emphasized.
In addition, the national coordinator for Partnership for Municipal Innovation- Women in Local Leadership(PMI- WILL) for NALAG, Jerry Sheriff Amarh, also urged all Ghanaian women to push for their inclusivity at all decision making levels to pave way for the younger women in the near future.
