Under the leadership of President Andrew Nana Gyan, the Accra Archdiocesan Catechists Association emphasizes the importance of comprehensive formation for catechists across all eight generations within the Archdiocese.
Andrew Nana Gyan is the president of the Accra Archdiocesan Catechists Association. This formation is very necessary for every catechist in the Accra Archdiocese across all eight generations. It is our hope and prayer that through this annual and monthly formation conducted during our meetings, the catechists will be well-formed and informed about the teachings of the faith of the Catholic Church.
Our prayers are that once they go through this, they will be able to teach very effectively. This is the first point.
The second point relates to evangelization, which has experienced a decline. We aim to support the vision and mission of the Archbishop. It is our prayer that when they are well-formed, they will go out and evangelize, as that is the mission of the Church. The Church exists to evangelize, and we are continuing what Jesus Christ gave his apostles to do.
Following the national theme, which may change yearly in alignment with the national goal for the year, it is our priority for the church to evangelize. We hope that in the next five years, catechists will appreciate and understand more about scripture, doctrine, and our faith. This will enable them to impact and transform people, especially the catechumens, with this modern way of teaching, countering false interpretations of scripture and doctrine. With this formation, we hope and pray that, once well-formed, catechists will be well-equipped to propagate the faith, which is all about evangelization.
My advice to all the catechists, acknowledging that the majority were not able to come, is that it is the vision and mission of the Archbishop, in particular, for all catechists to be formed.
I appeal to parish priests to sponsor their catechists for the ongoing formation, which is currently held at our own center with the director. It is our prayer that all of them will come, stay, have a quiet, reflective mood to learn, and go forth to make an impact.
Therefore, catechists should try to remind their priests to sponsor them for the next formation program, and priests should support and encourage them to be part of this important formation program held at our own center.
