The Kwahu Nkwatia Nkosuohene, Nana Owiredu Wadie, and his family Yeboah Wadie’s Family of Kwahu Nkwatia has adopted a four years old young school girl, who perceived being abandoned, was attracted and chosen to be sponsored for all her education through-out her life.
This happened during an event to Education School girls on
Menstrual Health Hygiene at Kwahu Nkwatia Basic Schools and DONATION OF FREE SANITARY PADS to all seven (7) Basic Schools in Kwahu Nkwatia, whiles assured of repeating the free Sanitary Pads donation every month as part of KABAKA Foundation Projects through Opanyin Kwame Wadie’s, Birthday activities.
Over 400 packs of free sanitary pads were distributed to all the seven (7) Basic Schools in Kwahu Nkwatia Community. The items which was presented through Kabaka foundation at Nkwatia D/A Basic School in the Kwahu East District, Eastern Region aimed at reducing School dropout.
The Executive Director of Kabaka Foundation, Dr. Henry Larbi, addressing the gathering said, many of the girls had stopped attending school due to the negative social norms surrounding menstrual hygiene management.
Supporting girls to manage their periods, the distribution of the products was to help girls meet their needs as they went through their menstrual cycle, who could not afford sanitary pads.
In light of this, the Kwahu East District Girl child Coordinator, Mrs. Constance Tawiah Asomani, in educating the young adolescent girls in Nkwatia D/A Basic School, highlighted the importance of girls staying in school and reject the stigma surrounding menstruation.
She stressed, so many challenges affects school girls during their period, some avoid them due to fear of bullying, lack of affordable menstrual products and sometimes inadequate facilities at Schools and also urged Parents and teachers to promote and educate menstrual Health Hygiene with young adolescents.
She Furthermore, appealed to Government to reduced Taxes on Sanitary pads and if possible donates them free to the young adolecent School children to promotes a supportive environment for School girls.
