UN Eminent Goodwill Peace Ambassador/ Africa Focal Point to UN – IAWPA;Kojo Sackey @Deputy UN Secretary – General ; H.E Fillepe on Youth Affairs at the United Nations during the maiden launch session for Africa Youth Voices Networks dated Monday, 15th ,April 2024 at UNHQ ,CR8.
In the session , Her Excellency; Christine – UN Under – Secretary -General responsible for Africa Affairs chairing the maiden Africa Youth Voices Networks Launch in support of her able team , the panelists and the invited quests from member states and civil society organization among others outlined some of the challenges confronting fast- paced growth in the Africa sub- region such as financing gap deficit from development partners, high- energy deficit, inequalities , bureaucratic bottle necks inherent in conventional global monetary systems, large chunk of informal jobs with low income rate from the teeming youth populace.
The session brought to bear how such negative tendencies affecting development can be reversed by creating a common “Youth Voices Networks” in the region to engage positively in Multilateral affairs , Governments , UN agencies, and Co-operations by taking advantage of digital technology , AI space and agribusiness among others.
A nine member youths committee responsible for such positive campaigns in the region was proposed and soon launched by her outfit.
Interestingly, the peace & and security campaign was prominent in her agenda as a recipe for socia- economic development in the region.
H.E Felipe ; Asstantant Secretary- General United Nations Youth Office in his capacity pledged support to such a lofty initiative in the region and how youth can be positively engaged in dialogue such as this to avert more potential conflicts in the region.
Moreover, among the invited quests present from the Member States throwing their unflincing support to such great initiative were Republic of Eritrea, Egypt, Morroco , Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Cameroon among others but not limited to Republic of Ghana delegation from permanent mission office to the United Nations in the sub- region.
The on-line speakers who joined the conversation in their official capacities as youthful government appointees and in the academia identify many challenges stalling the growth of the region with immeasurable natural resources and the most youthful population in the whole continent .
They also indicated best ways such challenges can be addressed with concerted efforts , right skills set acquisition and government support.
In closing , Michelle, the moderator for the Africa Youth Voices Networks, remarks with “Yes We Can Mantra” to change the Africa story in the comity of nations with oneness and unity of purpose.
