The quest for a Presiding Member for the Ga-South Municipal Assembly continues after a second attempt to elect one proved unsuccessful after the Assembly Members reconvened re-election after the first election held did not produce an outright winner was postponed and unfortunately for the second time the election could not fetch the needed result and none of the contestants has been able to pulled two-thirds of the total votes cast as required by law.
Twenty Nine (29) Assembly Members including the Municipal Chief Executive, the contestants, Hon. Winfred Ayetey (candidate 1) pulled 18, and Hon. Adonu Peter (candidate 2) pulled 10 out of 29 vote cast and 1 spoiled ballot.
In furtherance, the Municipal Coordinating Director and acting Presiding Member of Ga-South Municipality Mrs. Eugenia Agbenyegah, addressing the assembly members after they failed to elect a Presiding Member again stressed, that the Municipality is likely to face setbacks in implementing its development policies since it has failed for the second time to elect a Presiding Member (PM), and also used the opportunity to caution the political party Leadership (executives) in the Constituency of their interference of the Assembly’s proceedings during the elections.
Moreover, the Ga-South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Joseph Nyarni, on his part, advised the Assembly Members for their mandatory role played in fulfillment of the Local Governance Act, Act 936, and again used the occasion to advise them to put out politics behind and do the needful.
Adding his voice, the immediate past Presiding Member (PM) Hon. Abdul Wahab Mohammed, who was once a member of the house at the Ga-South Municipal Assembly advised the Assembly Members to never compromise their action with competence.
