The digital Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H. E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, officially launched the Tap & Go Transport App on Monday, February 19, 2024, at around 9:00 am at the Head Office of Metro Mass Transit Ltd in Kaneshie, Accra.

The Tap & Go App is to help formalize the transport sector using well-structured and tested technology.

During the launching, Dr. Bawumia explained the goal behind this initiative and he said that it will help reduce challenges both drivers and passengers face while using public transport.

One of the problems he says this system will eradicate is the situation where passengers board cars with high currencies and the bus conductor does not have money to pay for the passenger’s balance, this system will make everything digital and cashless so there will be no need for physical cash.

The next problem the Vice President said the Tap and Go will make extinct is that the system will protect drivers from robbers who will try to cross them to take their money away. When there is no cash on you, robbers won’t bother because everything is digital.

He urged Ghanaians to embrace the digital system for there is more to come.
