The Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, has called on Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to consider stepping down, citing both personal well-being and the benefit of the government.
The calls for Ofori-Atta’s resignation have been growing amid ongoing economic challenges in the country.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been particularly vocal in blaming the Finance Minister for the current fiscal difficulties, and over a hundred NPP MPs have also joined in calling for his resignation or dismissal.
Atta Akyea stressed the importance of self-reflection for Ofori-Atta during an interview with Citi TV.
He suggested that considering his position could be beneficial for both the Finance Minister and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In addition, Atta Akyea criticized those who attribute the country’s economic woes to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
While acknowledging that the economy is facing challenges, Atta Akyea cautioned against placing blame solely on Dr. Bawumia, emphasizing the serious responsibilities he holds that may limit his ability to make certain sensitive decisions for the country.
