Scores of commercial and Cargo Drivers were outraged over poor state of road through to the Parking yard at the Ekye-Amanfrom in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District, Eastern Region.
The angry Drivers in pursuit of demand for immediate action else they will embark on a serious demonstration with Strike to register their protests and express concerns about the appalling state of the road.
Speaking to Mr. Kwasi Danso, Branch Vice Chairman of National Cargo Transport Association Afram Plains, highlighted the danger of the road during emergencies and if care is not taken, someone will die by falling into the Afram River so therefore explained that it is for their good to take critical measures on the situation for the road to be fixed as a matter of urgency.
He explained, that complaints had been made previously to the management but had not resulted in any substantive action, said it seems the authorities have turned a death ears to their request to solve the problems and used the opportunity to warned that, if they do not see any concrete steps towards improving the road in the yard within a month’s time, they would hit the streets for a serious demonstration with Strike.
On their part, the Distraught Motorist and Cargo Drivers who shared their frustration said the Volta Lake Transport Company Limited had taken them for granted and cried out their plea to the authorities to come to their aid because the roads were really in a deplorable state.
According to them, the bad road parking yard space is negatively affecting their operations and they wanted the authorities to do something about the situation since they pay tolls to the Volta Lake Transport Company Limited but the road had become ‘death trap, due to the poor nature of the road, indicating that, during the loading time of the ferry, the Cargo drivers struggle to move through the road to park on the freely, noted there are no breathing space either in the parking Yard and said the action will trigger if refusal to listen and heed to their plea to resolve the situation hence, they will stage a very serious Demonstration with strike against them.
When the Media reached out to the Station Officer (S.O) of Volta Lake Transport Company Limited Mr. Marvin Okai-koi, Noted that he was bothered about the concerns of the drivers, hence management is negotiating to solve the issue.
